This year marked Bucketlist’s first Zipline Summer Camp, and we couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the community.
From thoughtful sessions and roundtable discussions to an evening at Flight Club, the event gave us the opportunity to learn directly from the retail operators, communicators, and learning leaders shaping the store-team experience.
One theme connected nearly every conversation: employee engagement has to show up in the everyday work of store teams.
Employee engagement is an operational priority
A key keynote message that stayed with us was that engagement is not only an HR or communications initiative.
Operations teams see its impact every day, in training adoption, store execution, manager consistency, customer experience, and how connected associates feel to the work they’re doing.
For store teams, engagement isn’t simply about receiving another message or completing another task. It’s about understanding what matters, seeing how their work contributes, and knowing that someone noticed when they delivered.
That makes recognition an important part of the operational experience, not something that sits outside it.
Showing Bucketlist + Zipline in action
Summer Camp was also the perfect opportunity to showcase how Bucketlist and Zipline work together to turn everyday store activity into timely recognition and meaningful rewards.
Zipline already connects store teams to the communication, learning, and execution that drive the business. Bucketlist adds the recognition and rewards layer, without introducing another disconnected experience for associates or managers.
With Smart Awards, moments like completing training, reaching a performance goal, or demonstrating an important behaviour can become recognition, points, and meaningful rewards. Employees continue using the Zipline workflows they already know, while Bucketlist helps reinforce the work that matters.
As Bucketlist President and COO Joe Marconato put it:
Recognition works when it’s tied to what matters: a completed training, a strong shift, a sales goal hit.
That’s what makes employee engagement more tangible. It creates a visible connection between what the business asks teams to do and how people are recognized for doing it well.
Insights from our roundtable
During our Bucketlist + Zipline roundtable, we asked attendees to consider one question:
If you could make one recognition workflow easier or more consistent, where would you start?
The conversation explored three common areas:
- Performance moments: Training completed, KPIs reached, sales goals achieved, or store contests won
- Manager-led moments: Spot awards, local wins, and team shoutouts
- Missed moments: Customer compliments, milestones, and everyday contributions that don’t always get captured
The “missed moments” conversation was especially important.
Retail teams are already creating moments worth recognizing. The problem is that those moments can stay within one store, live in an email or spreadsheet, or depend on someone remembering to follow up.
The takeaway wasn’t that retailers need to rebuild their entire recognition program. A strong place to start is one moment that already matters, then make it easier to capture, reward, and repeat.
The conversations continued at Flight Club
The learning didn’t end when the sessions wrapped.
We brought members of the Zipline community together at Flight Club for darts, FIFA highlights, food, drinks, and a little friendly competition.
The evening gave us space to continue the conversations from the conference in a more relaxed setting: how retailers are engaging store teams today, where recognition becomes difficult to manage, and which employee moments they want to make more visible.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make Bucketlist’s first Summer Camp such a memorable one, regardless of where your darts landed.

What would you reward first?
That’s the question we’re taking home from Summer Camp.
Would you start with:
- Product or compliance training?
- Store or individual performance?
- Great customer service?
- Manager-led recognition?
- A milestone or everyday win that currently gets missed?
Bucketlist + Zipline helps retailers connect those moments to timely recognition and meaningful rewards inside the experience store teams already use.
